Director, Business Development

Position Responsibilities/Major Duties
  • Develop, coordinate and implement plans designed to increase existing business and capture new opportunities. The director of business development is involved in strategic expansion and business planning with top executives, setting objectives and identifying methods to increase company branding by building strategic partnerships and making strategic business decisions.
  • Execute licensing strategies aligned to specific therapeutic areas
  • Develop marketing branding with outside companies, including attend conferences and other events.
  • Negotiate transactions on behalf of the company, and manage due diligence, and structure, including in/out-licensing deals, product acquisitions, strategic partnerships and M&As.
  • Analyze future business opportunities including marketing shares, R&D/competitive landscape and new technologies to make recommendations for strategic decisions.
  • Lead evaluations of all aspects of therapeutic drug programs from preclinical through clinical stages across the relevant assessment areas: proposed clinical benefit, mechanism, preclinical data, manufacturing, regulatory strategy, clinical development path, intellectual property and commercial potential.
  • Organize due diligence findings, and review and approval by respective internal teams. Deliver accurate and timely updates and findings, and provide information for regular review and decision making at senior management level
  • Work closely with internal departments, including but not limited to country/regional leadership team, R&D, IP, Finance, Legal, Targets Committee and Corporate Strategy to execute in and out licensing and collaboration transactions with third parties;
  • To continuously strengthen industry networking to secure the identification of attractive partnering opportunities.

 

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position may have supervisory responsibilities in the future.

 

Travel:

Travel may be required to visit partners, related companies and attending conferences domestically and internationally. Ability and willingness to travel extensively as required to successfully perform the assigned role.

Requires approximately 50%

Job requirements

Required Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Biology or other life sciences majors is required.
  • As least 5 years of experience in working for a pharmaceutical/biotech company in business development or closing licensing with a strong track record of executing BD deals.
  • Experience of oncology therapeutic areas is required.

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Advanced post-graduate degrees including Masters, Ph.D. in Biology or Medicine is preferred. Master’s in Finance or MBA desirable.
  • Experience of biologics and several therapeutic areas is ideal.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Present with strong communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills; comprehensive judging and problem-solving skills to effectively lead diligence teams and navigate the company corporate structure.
  • Strong analytical skills to provide sound inputs into financial evaluations and assessment control.
  • Track record of leading strategic collaboration and in-licensing agreements including running due diligence processes and leading complex negotiations exemplified by a very strong deal sheet.
  • Must be highly motivated, goal oriented, diligent, attentive to detail, organized self-started with orientation towards a high level of customer service.
  • Strong network within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Good computer skills, including word-processing, graphics, and spreadsheet programs are expected.

 

Required Technology:

Strong MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills
